Danny Lederman‘s 15-year-old son Ben has been at the La Masia youth academy for four years now but since last season he has only been allowed to train and is not permitted to play. Unable to stand it any longer the youngster packed his bags and headed back to the United States where he is forced to live far away from his family in order to do what he loves: play football.
Similarly, Mark Lugo‘s 8-year old son Marianno is also restricted from playing. He belongs to a local Barça supporters’ group team and, like Ben, is also not allowed to play football. Both explained their predicament to MARCA.
“My son is in Florida at the IMG academy, which forms part of the US national team programme and we’re looking at ways to bring him back. All he wants to do is play football, there’s nothing else he’d rather do and in the last year and a half he’s been utterly miserable. We’re prepared to take our case to the ordinary courts as there’s nothing to lose. With FIFA embroiled in corruption now’s the time to act,” Lederman noted.
“The FIFA ruling is an attack on human rights. My son asks me if he’s stopped from playing because he’s bad. They’re discriminating against people on account of their passports,” Lugo added.
